New York Fashion Week F’17
BY DASHA DANEKYANTS AND MIA CROONA
Looking back on all the beautiful shows throughout fashion week, you might have noticed some consistent trends that emerged. As we focus on New York Fashion week alone, noticeable trends like ruffles, asymmetry and embellishments were utilized throughout the shows. Although these trends seem generic, the talented designers made their shows unique and added some spice to each of the looks.
Marchesa is someone that are really in for the bows and the ruffles this year, but also for the chokers.
The ruffles and bows created a very feminine but sophisticated look. We saw the ruffles in shirts, skirts, pants and dresses. The bows were tastefully included in the looks, some were even used as chokers!
Here we can see that Derek Lam and Christian Siriano is also doing the long lengths this year. We also see a lot of embellishment in these looks.
One of the trends that stood out was the asymmetrical fabrics and jewelry. From single-earrings to one shoulder dresses, unbalanced looks were surprisingly impressive.
Tom Browne especially stood out with the over-the-top makeup and heavy embellishments. His models glided through the runway with boots that resembled ice skates showing off Browne’s craftsmanship and fabric experimentations. Though some of the clothes were basic, Browne didn’t miss a chance to show off his imagination with the eccentric details. (See images above)
Rodarte is also in the game this year and we can see a lot of ruffles even here. We can also see the big belt in the waist here. It seems like a notifiable waist is in this year.
The first look in black looks a little bit edgy and also of the tribal style. But the second look is a bit more girly, but we can still see a lot of the ruffles and the see through material. What I can see is that the style can be worn in both classy appearance as well as cool and casual appearance.
What can I say, do not be afraid of showing your style this year and go ruffles!
I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say Oliver Rousteing hit it out of the ballpark on this past season’s runway. Balmain channeled an “amazon” theme as the models fiercely showed off the impressive materials. The show itself was empowering and contained beautiful craftsmanship which created a silhouette that demonstrates women’s strengths.
We can all agree that long lengths are in! Almost every designer in NYFW this season has incorporated long lengths. Not only that, belts and distinct waist lines were very popular throughout this week.
